■ ABOUT COTREX
Colorado Trail Explorer aims to map every official trail in the state of Colorado. COTREX connects people, trails, and technology by coordinating the efforts of federal, state, county, and local agencies to create a comprehensive repository of recreational trails for public use.
COTREX is unique in that the app only shows information from official sources. No unreliable crowdsourced information or recommendations from someone on the other side of the country. Everything you see in COTREX has been reviewed and approved by the managers and experts local to that area.
This project is led by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) and Department of Natural Resources, but is only made possible through partnerships with organizations at every level statewide. COTREX represents a seamless network of trails managed by over 230 land managers.
■ DISCLAIMERS
[Battery Life] We do everything we can to make the app low power when recording, but GPS is notorious for reducing battery life.

Tap on a trail and you get some info, but I'm looking for the rating of the trail and whether there's a fee. Why does it have to zoom way out when I search? I find an area I want to explore and search for trails classified as easy and it zooms out so that I don't know where I was. (Just like Google Maps. Just as annoying.)

I appreciate that this app is FREE and has downloadable blocks that work with satellite GPS on my phone. It has a wealth of info on so many trails. I couldn't recommend it more. I compared it to All Trails and believe it's just as good if not better and FREE!

Great for Planning Your Hiking! I like the ability to save custom routes. I use it to pre-plan hikes by evaluating the distance and elevation gain. I also use it to adjust my route by checking distance and elevation gain of alternate routes. See you on the trail! #ColoMountaineer #HikingColorado 9/25/2021 - I'm still enjoying the app. It drains battery down when recording, but so do other fitness trackers. I use it to plan hikes, look at routes, navigating, etc. I rely on my Garmin for stats.

+ Easy to track routes or make your own after the fact or as planing Downloadable maps is awesome Great info on all the trails I know of Elevation gain and loss (when it works) Free - Had to reinstall because it couldn't find my location Doesn't say trail difficulty. Would be a major plus for mountain biking Elevation gain/loss is buggy. By definition if I travel on a loop they should be equal but one is often several hundred feet off from the other Sometimes can't figure out that trails connect

Wow. This is a free app? Incredible. It's very good for a paid app. It has a limited map set, given. But MVUM, sufficient topo with USFS road numbers, and satellite is all that's needed for overlanding/4wd in particular. Offline downloading is EXCELLENT. Very fast with a great interface. Beats the living pants off Gaia GPS in this regard, which has a terrible download/offline setup that is insanely slow most of the time. To top it off, map scrolling and display speed are crazy fast. A+

my friend and I used this yesterday on a short hike. we were on a time crunch, but the app kept track of where we were, so when the switchbacks never seemed to end, we were able to use the app to see how much farther we had to go. I like the badges feature, expecily the one for litter. it reminds me of pokemonGo. only issue is I can't find a Que or 'to do' list.

Overall, I love this app! I love being able to download map sections for offline use without having to pay. I use it for every hike I do in Colorado. If it doesn't already have the option, (because I haven't tried yet) It would be nice to have every state have some kind of app similar to this and be compatible so hiking stats from out of state hikes can be saved in the same app. Otherwise, I will have to continue using All Trails everywhere else.

Excellent trail map for ATV riding. We used it this past weekend for the first time and barely scratched the surface of it's functions. It was awesome to have the offline capabilities and with it's constant update as to our position on the trails, it definitely kept us from getting lost in the high country. We'll be using this app now to find new places to ride and explore as much of Colorado as can. Thanks to the developers for a great app!
