IPA Keyboard is the most comprehensive phonetic symbol keyboard around!

- Type IPA for US English for free.
- 300+ IPA extension, obsolete, and non-standard symbols can be unlocked via in-app purchase from the keyboard settings.

Apart from the enormous number of easily accessible symbols, IPA Keyboard has a bunch of other great features:

- Modern, material design theme; looks and feels great for typing.
- Characters are grouped by related shape or sound, so that all of the IPA symbols are easy to find.
- Tabbed keyboards for punctuation, diacritics, tones, and other symbols, separate from the main consonant & vowel keyboard and easy to navigate.
- Alternative symbols show right on the keys. Long-press to reveal. There is also a setting to hide the alternatives and reduce visual clutter.
- Five different keyboard layouts to choose from (QWERTY, AZERTY, Dvorak, Colemak, and a custom phonetic ordering based on the IPA chart).

Great for learners!

IPA Keyboard is the only keyboard that includes a full symbol reference built in. Simply enable the Hint Bar in the app preferences. Tap on any key to reveal the phonetic description of the symbol.

If you would like to support development of IPA Keyboard or my future projects, please consider unlocking the full version!

We do not collect any user data. We do not transmit, store, or otherwise have any knowledge about what you type into the keyboard. We do not run ads, and we do not share any data with any third parties. In other words, we do not have any revenue stream other than the in-app purchase to unlock all symbols. If you would like a free keyboard that shares data and displays advertisements, please look elsewhere. In our view, if you are not paying for the product, you are the product!

Very functional, one of the best. It has one sub-optimal feature though. What I mean is: when I type IPA in say French, I need ʁ the most, butthat symbol is in the "r" submenu, and it is cumbersome to always open the drop menu for extra symbols (very slow and tiresome). It would be helpful if the symbol would be ready for quick one-tap access for better workflow, and for that I need to be able to create a templates for a language so I can type it faster. I'd even buy that as an extra feature 😉.

I love this keyboard. It makes it very convenient to enter phonetic symbols, and even confirm that I remember their sound values. It even has a paɡe with mathematical symbols. Only one problem drives me nuts with it. The enter is in the place where all my other keyboards have the backspace, so when I want to delete something, I accidentally submit it instead. Maybe the backspace and enter could be moved down a row or two? (Also please check the alternate characters in the tone and quote pages?)

I changed my review. On a previous version, and a previous phone, the app did not work properly. The developer wrote me back after making changes and asked me to check it out. I got the app on my new phone and it works exactly as originally expected. I can now use my phone keboard to supply IPA transcriptions of words in several languages. This is exactly what I needed. Thank you, developers!

It is almost the best IPA Keyboard for android devices. The above sentence should act as an update to my previous review you can find below (and for which an update rolled out to fix the issue at hand back then): The keyboard has bugs. When you want to use the superscript characters, if the letter is on the top row, only the first row characters are shown upon a long press. Sometimes half of them are not even shown.

It's a fantastic idea, and to me definitely worth giving them the support. [EDIT]: BELOW ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED IN NEW VERSION. Unfortunately, on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the top row of keys is buggy. Holding on one of them makes the alternative characters appear, but cut in half, and if I were to not select any of the alternative characters, I cannot quit the alternative characters window.

It's incredibly useful, the only thing I think could use some improvement is the animations of the keyboard. I type quickly, and having to slow down or remove and correct text because of the spacing of the keys and the movements can be frustrating. (Granted, it could also be because I'm used to using a default keyboard.) But otherwise it's fantastic, great way to learn. Thanks :)

Clearly the best (and, well, only) complete IPA keyboard on the Play Store right now. The Android N rendering bug has finally been done away with, too! Now all they need is to add a key description on the ejective diacritic ’ (and I think that key is supposed to have a popup too?). Eh, negligable issues. I still give it a perfect score

Very good keyboard, could add more customizabilities though, especially when I don't see any difference between "pro" version and the normal one. I wish I could turn off the pop-up words, they could be really annoying sometimes. And the height of the keyboard should be adjustable.
