The Serbian flag is composed of traditional Pan-Slavic tricolor of red, blue, and white stripe. However, the color sequence is reversed compared to the other Slavic flags. Moreover, on the left side of the flag, there is a national coat of arms, which depicts a white double-headed eagle holding a red shield placed on red background. Above the head of the eagle, a crown inspired by the crown of Serbian tsars is situated. Allegedly, the Serbs intended to take over the Russian flag as a sign of gratitude for providing a war assistance. However, they did not bring the original flag home and after they had returned they ordered the stripes incorrectly. The flag is one of the newest ones since Serbia was not established as an independent state until 2006, when Montenegro decided to split up in a referendum.
