◆ Prolog

I'm giving it a 5 star review due to it being a great remake that is true to the original. The touch screen interface works nicely considering the source material. There are some nice quality of life improvements such as 'hidden' items flickering so they are easier to find. The echo flute was probably the hardest item for me to find. The retranslation wasn't the best. I don't recall the original having such obtuse language. However, it was fun to revisit this game from my childhood!

So, I really liked DQ1 whereas the game was pretty spot on other than the names of things ie, monsters, towns/dungeons/map, people I really enjoyed it and appreciate SE for putting it on mobile. Now with this game I was really enjoying it except with a few things. 1. The rate of monster encounters (seemed a little over done compared to DQ1). 2. Trying to figure out what Im supposed to do in the game DQ2 walkthroughs online arent very helpful considering a majority of them are based on SNES DW2 and so getting stuck in a few areas are easy ex, The tower of wind. 3. Which I felt being with all that was online stating POC should learn the spells at certain levels that I was getting frustrated when I wasnt learning them at the certain levels but after looking on youtube and seeing the walkthrough Piggasus had done I saw that the spells were learnt at a later level. I hope that this is it.

Don't listen to the haters & the newcomers, this game is still excellent. The game was made during a time where you needed to figure things out on your own rather than other JRPGs where they hold your hand and make things too easy to a point where it's simply boring. This Dragon Quest is one of the most challenging, but with that challenge, you feel satisfied after you win a difficult fight. The entire game is rather satisfying because of that. I urge people to pick it up, it's still fantastic.

Edit: the touch screen issued are now fixed, game works great. Thanks. This game has the same touch screen issue that DQ1 has, where you have to tap above everything and it registers below it. However, with DQ1, you can put it in compatibility mode under app scaling and it fixes the problem. For some reason, this game doesn't show up in my list for app scaling, so I can't fix it.

I can't think of another game that leaps so much above it's direct predecessor without skipping a generation of console. I never played DQ2, I was always a Sega kid, so I just wanted a turn-based RPG. This was absolutely cracking. It was really nice not being waypointed everywhere and just having a pipe about. It's got a proper beginning-middle-end structure that games these days can't always manage to construct. Excellent value for money too. I paid £5 and got about 40 hours out of this.

A much bigger game compared to the first one, longer playtime, more characters and enemies as well as equipment. Bigger and slightly more robust story (although that really isn't saying much.) Though oddly enough it feels like it hasn't aged as well as its predecessor. Great game, took me about 16.5 hours to complete. Recommended mostly for hard fans of the franchise as it feels like the most skippable of the bunch.

Worked fine on a phone i had about 4/5 years ago, but it runs so slowly on my current one which is an upgrade from there, which is really strange considering dragon quest 1 ran fine, and both this app and the dq1 app are taken from the snes comination cart with the two of them, so it should run just the same? Great game anyway though

Contrary to some bad reviews, this game was seemingly never bugged, they've just changed the experience growth so that the Prince of Cannock has a large gap after level 14 where he doesn't learn any spells. Although considered one of the worst in the series, this port polishes it into a surprisingly nice experience. Although well known as a grindfest, it offers enough options to flow very well in the mobile environment. Absolutely the definitive version and a prerequisite to Dragon Quest 3.
