How does it work?

Simply:
1. Choose one or more emotions that you're feeling.
2. What's behind those emotions? Choose which basic needs you aren't meeting (or are meeting, if you're feeling good).
3. How can you meet those basic needs? Brainstorm various strategies that could meet them.
4. Anyone else involved? Do the same for others too.

This process should give you a broader view of the situation and make it easier to find solutions that would meet the needs of everyone involved.
