The Virtual Microscope - Minerals is a professional and interactive virtual petrographic microscope that allows geologists to examine and explore minerals and their microscopic features (❗this app contains only minerals in thin sections using transmitted light - non-opaque minerals).

The Virtual Microscope - Minerals makes Optical Mineralogy easier to examine a thin section and to understand the characteristic properties of each mineral without a petrographic microscope, which is known to be very expensive. It is mainly addressed to geoscience students/geologists as a guide in individual or supervised laboratory work.

The app is Made by a Geologist for Geologists.

🔬 MAIN FEATURES 🔬
🌟 92 most common minerals in thin-section which cover all silicate and non-silicate classes;
🌟 High-quality thin-sections related to Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary rocks;
🌟 360 degrees interactive movement of the plates by dragging in a circular movement;
🌟 Magnification – zooming in and out;
🌟 detailed observations for each mineral under the microscope (both PPL and XPL);
🌟 user-friendly interface, ad-free, and very intuitive;
🌟 Regular updates.

❗❗❗ For minerals in reflected light (opaque minerals), I have developed another app (Virtual Minerals - Ore Minerals).

Def. worth the price if you have to work with a microscope to identify thin sections at some point. +almost all important minerals in 360° view, (only missed Flourite so far) +extremely helpful in identifying, drawing and comparing thin sections. = The Zoom is just that. A zoom of the photo and doesn't do much. - no lower magnification, some minerals are too large to see the crystal form. - No opaque minerals (in another app) (I'd rather pay a bit more than needing 10 different apps)

Generally, good idea BUT, I feel cheated in relation to price. Those are very few minerals, scanty information. App is about 50% user friendly. Best price would be USD 2 or less until any queries here are addressed. Varied rating is only about standards and certainly some are low others are high based on comments i have read. Please increase minerals, lower price etc. These will make your app a go to place. For now, I'm wondering how i can get 60% refund.

Hi, this is a great app for students. I think i didn't read it properly and i thought i could use this app to figure out what mineral i have on my thin section. So its not helpful for me but this is a great app for student and new learners. I would like to redeem my money if its possible.

Needs more minerals, otherwise a well made app and useful at that (for the minerals that exist so far). Would be 5 stars with some more minerals, ex. K-feldspars could be expanded.

Has great depiction of minerals in plane and cross polarised light and will help in identifying them. Thanks, all your apps have been great aids 👍

It is a cool unique app that is good for anisotropic minerals, but for the price there isn't a large mineral selection.
