Wire Metal Detector is the App that allows you to detect power lines (wires) in distance up to 5 inches (12 cm) as well as metal by using a magnetic field sensor of your Android device. Thus, you can find hidden power lines in walls and other places as well as easy detection of metal objects with reduced false alarms.
The wire detection and metal detection are completely different parts of the App.
In the Wire Detection Mode the App does analyze the magnetic field which created by the current in the AC power lines (wires). Therefore, the relatively powerful device should be connected to the outlet to create the electromagnetic field strong enough. The power consumption of these devices should be more than 200 Watt for better detection. Only 50-60 Hz AC in the wires does effect on this kind of detector. Detection is working only if the Android device is moving very slowly or nonmoving.
In the Metal Detection Mode the App does analyze small changes in the ambient magnetic field. Therefore, in order to detect any metal, the device should be constantly slowly moving around objects. The bigger metal object, the more detection distance will be. Detection is working only if moving occurs.

Excellent app. I used it to find AC power cables in concrete walls. It takes a few seconds to average the reading so give it some time and move it slowly. The oscilloscope mode shows very clearl alias of the 50 hz, depending on your phone's acquisition rate. I am not sure it is as good in detecting lower power lines, will need to check.

I read the reviews first and saw that it needs a pretty high current flowing. So I connected a hairdryer first. I also set the level/ threshold a lot lower. It worked! But the response is a little slow and my phone didn't respond often enough to make it a good wire tracer.

Could not detect a live wire anywhere I knew there was. Even tested on a plugged in and in use battery charger. No metal. No Wire. This is potentially very dangerous. DO NOT RELY ON THIS APP.

Reliably detects AC and confirms it with the spectrum, however it really needs strong enough radiation. Works impressively being put close to a phone charger or a resistive load like water boiler.

I tested several similar apps, this one I can give only a 5 stars because autor dedicated to explain everything, ang gave as much info as you can get.

useless. randomly says there are wires even if just holding it in the air.

showed it lots of metals an it said nothing. Could not trust it for drilling in a wall.

Amazing. It's real
