I wanted an elegant tool to organize readings, references and format citations for grad school. Zotero's mobile browser experience wasn't doing it for me. I got impatient waiting for the Zotero Android closed beta to open up, so I gave Papers a try. My trial left me excited to keep using it. Switching over was easy enough. Their student rate is affordable. Their browser, desktop and mobile apps meet most of my features needs (minus TTS). They even quickly fixed a bug I reported. Worth a try 👍🏽

UPDATE: I was promptly contacted by customer support, which contacted the development team and released a new version which fixed the bug. Thanks! ### I am testing the Papers App on my phone (Android) but the full screen layout is too big and not working, I cannot access icons and buttons and settings because outside of the touch screen range or overlapping with the top screen notifications. Device: Xiaomi 14 (2024) Android version: 15

Updated: Huge improvements in UI and features over previous versions. Thank you for the continued development and not abandoning your mobile-first users. Old: Importing references via the "share with" button just shows the library instead of importing the reference. This makes the app rather useless and inferior to it's competitors. Update: People have been complaining about this for 1.5 years at least now. Please enable import from url (as in desktop) and not only from pdf.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this app; I also use it on my iPad and Mac as well. The syncing and integration is super useful. The only thing I find lacking is the S-pen functionality. I find that the latency is higher than other apps that allow for annotations, though I don't notice this on my iPad. Improving this would remove my only major gripe with the app. For reference, I use a Note 20 Ultra.

I've been using Papers since Papers 1. I always loved it and installed Papers2, which was great. Then Papers 3, which was ok. And now I have installed ReadCube and it is absolute garbage. You have completely gutted the functionality of the app... And don't get me started on "SmartCite". It is completely unusable. You shouldn't be charging people for a "Referencing program" if it can't bloody reference, guys!

Offline functionality is bad. I downloaded a bunch of papers, after reading and annotating some offline, I opened the app again and it automatically tries to sync and then says there's no papers in my library. I checked storage and the downloaded papers are still in the app. But my Papers library on the app just says there's nothing there. Outside of that, the app is ok.

I like ReadCube Papers but the mobile Android experience is a disaster. Reading is cool, the zooming feature works. But when you want to highlight from a text, going down some lines, your realize you can't even see the words hidden behind the highlight menu. Embarrassing. More importantly it's a nightmare to actually import papers manually either from a website or manually from a pdf. I can't believe the desktop app is so good and the mobile one is miserable. It's not self sufficient in a pinch

This app is pretty useful for syncing PDFs between devices, and tracking annotations and citations. I almost didn't install it because the icon, in my opinion, makes it look like some kind of corporate garbage built by an under-motivated contractor. I'd really suggest changing it; the old Papers icon for MacOS was quite good and gave an impression of design quality. My only complaint about the app itself is that it doesn't have location syncing across devices.
