Foundation stone laid in the year 1970 by KH.G.M.sadiq(then cheif minister of J&K)government degree college bemina started academic operations in the year 1972. the college has the largest campus in the state spread over a land area of 300 + kanals ,which accommodates various blocks housing Bio-science, physical sciences , commerce and business studies ,U-shaped structure for lecture theatres,general administration and hostel besides ,srinagar city , the college caters to the educational requirements of the student comming from far -off and frontier areas of the state like gurez ,tangdar, kargil .

In addition to the annual college magazine "Yemberzal"which caters to the creative needs of the students of the institution , the college has also two research publicatiions .the fourth volume of "The bussiness milieu "-the journal faculty of commerce and the sixth issues of "The briefs - the newsletter highlighting the multidimensional activities performed in the college are under process.A matter of pleasure is that the science faculty also launched are research journal "The Search" .

The college publishes its newsletter "The briefs" which incorporates the reports of the activities undertaking by the college during the period. A mention of the best practices started in the college include organising of extension lectures , automation of the library ,global access in internet etc. Added to this "Lalded literary society" has been formed with a view to engage students in literacy activities and abhinav gupta seminar hall development to create a space for organizing academic activities and offers a variety of supporting services like central library ,sports opportunities , hostel accomidation ,canteen and recreational facilities , and student's welfare schemes.

The institution also offers varied sports opportunities to the students through out the year by orzanizing in-house and state level inter-college sports events.the department of commerce and management of the college has been allowed by the state government to run post graduate programme leading to the award of M.com degree. the department for the purpose stands affiliated to the university of kashmir .W.E.F.2005.
Now , college is part of Cluster University ,Srinagar and offers a bouquet of courses at UG and PG level viz BA/Bsc/B.Com (General) ; Integrated PG in Commerce, Management, Political Science ,History and PG in Commerce
