বলাকা ১৯১৬ সালে রচিত রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের গতিচেতনা বিষয়ক কাব্য। কাব্যটি রবীন্দ্র কবি মানসের বিবর্তন ধারাপথে আত্মপ্রকাশ করেছে। প্রাক্বলাকা কাব্যে কবির অনুভূতি আবেগের মধ্যে দিয়ে ব্যক্ত ছিল, কিন্তু বলাকা কাব্যে সেই অনুভূতির প্রকাশ হয়েছে বোধি ও বুদ্ধি, জ্ঞান ও অনুভবে এবং দ্রুতি ও দীপ্তির মাধ্যমে- বিষয়ের সঙ্গে একাত্মতায় ও নতুন চেতনায়। কাব্যটি রচনার পশ্চাতে তিনটি বিষয় কবিকে অনুপ্রাণিত করেছে; ক. কবির ইউরোপ ভ্রমণ, খ. কবির নোবেল পুরস্কার লাভ, গ. সমকালীন বিশ্বপরিস্থিতি ও প্রথম মহাযুদ্ধ। ১১ মে ১৯১২ সালে কবি সম্ভবত: তৃতীয়বারের মতো ইউরোপ যাত্রা করেন। ইংল্যান্ডে চার মাস থেকে গেলেন আমেরিকায়, সেখানকার নিউইয়র্ক, আর্বানা-শেম্পেন, শিকাগো, বোস্টন, কেমব্রিজ প্রভৃতি স্থানের মনীষী, সাধারণ মানুষ ও বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের পন্ডিতদের সংস্পর্শে আসেন। ইউরোপ ও আমেরিকার নবজীবন প্রবাহ, প্রাণশক্তি ও আভ্যন্তরীণ আত্মিক শক্তি এবং আমেরিকাবাসীর বিজ্ঞান-রাষ্ট্র-সমাজচিন্তা তাঁর চিত্ত ও চেতনায় প্রবল আলোড়ন সৃষ্টি করেছে। ফলে প্রতিভার সঙ্গে কবি মানসে সঞ্চারিত হলো গভীর এক অনুপ্রেরণা। দ্বিতীয়ত নোবেলপ্রাপ্তীর ফলে প্রাচ্য জীবনচেতনার গুরুত্ব ও গৌরব বিশ্বসভায় ও বিশ্বের মনীষীদের কাছে মূল্যায়ন হয়েছে-এই নব উপলব্ধি কবিকে নতুন প্রাণশক্তিতে উদ্বোধিত করেছে।
