Did you know that once you grant access to your phone's camera/microphone/GPS location to any third-party App, they can use it silently in the background? And do you feel envious about the new iOS 14's privacy feature - shows an indicator whenever camera or microphone is accessed? Or you can't wait for Android 12's implementation of the same feature?
Presenting Access Dots for Android, supporting all the way down to Android 8.0!
Access Dots, adds the same iOS 14 style indicators (few pixels light up as a dot) to the top right (default) corner of your screen whenever any third-party App uses your phone's camera/microphone/GPS location. Access Dots will be visible even on your lockscreen!
Configuring the App is as simple as enabling the Access Dots Accessibility Service (Toggle switch in the App > (More) Downloaded Services/Installed Services > Access Dots > Enable). By default the App is configured to show iOS 14 style colored access dots - green for camera access, orange for microphone access and blue for GPS location. The App itself does not request for camera or microphone access, however, to be able to monitor GPS access by any App, 'Access Dots' require GPS location permission.
Access Dots is in early BETA, under development, so far it has the following features:
● Display Access Dots whenever phone's camera/microphone/GPS location is engaged by a third-party App.
● Maintain an Access Log, which can be accessed from the App's main settings screen. The Access Log shows when the camera/microphone/GPS location was accessed, which App was in foreground at the time of access initiation and how long did the access last.
● Assign any color to either of the Access Dots.
● On Android 10+, Access Dots by default sticks beside your camera cutout (if your device has.) You can configure the location of Access Dots to the point of specifying X/Y coordinates.
● If your device supports 'Energy Ring - Universal Edition!' App, then you can wrap Access Dots around the punch hole camera as well.
● The size of Access Dots can be adjusted.
While it's free to change the Access Dots' color to whatever you want, consider making a donation to support the development and have access to few extra configurations like changing the 'size' of the dot or its location on the screen. :)
Note: Please make sure the App is whitelisted under any kind of optimization setting your device has, if the App is killed from background by the System, you may have to restart phone to get the Access Dots active again.
Accessibility Service Requirement
Access Dots requires to run as an Accessibility Service to display the indicator/dot on any screen whenever a third-party App uses camera/microphone/GPS. The service does NOT gather any data whatsoever.
This Service/App itself does NOT have permission to use your device’s camera or microphone.

Same problem as with energy bar. The app itself becomes a massive ad spammer. Doesn't work anymore as before. To get the old feel back you probably have to pay even more. Introduce additional features and charge for them, not features which where there for years and then decide to lock everyone out. No thanks! Than in a year I need to pay again? Sorry, deleted!

Neat. Needs a way to show if both the mic and camera are being used at the same time, though. There's a log you can check at the main screen, but other than that you may have no idea that an app was accessing one when you only expected it to access the other. Interface leaves a bit to be desired, but it's not like it's something you look at often to use.

This is a must-have app. But there are a few things that need to change though. For one, stop using fancy-looking cursive text. It gives the app a cheap feel. Use standard noto, roboto or other san serif fonts to make your app look professional. Another thing is to have default options for the dot colors. For example, I wanted to try other color options for dots, but then decided to go back to the default values but couldn't. This should change.

Love this app! Agree with other user about needing an optional audible warning as well. I also think that the ability to show both access dots at the same time when BOTH the camera and mic are being accessed would be ideal. Also, can I please have the email to send yall a screen shot showing a possible error? I would appreciate it. All in all?! AWESOME app, so much so I offered their medium sized donation package to help keep the efforts of this alive for Android users!

I think this is a useful app. I think if developed properly and given revolutionary updates it can provide peace of my mind that no one has tapped into your phone when suspecting it the most. You can customize all icons to different colors and sizes. All icons work when microphone, GPS, and camera are activated. Overall, you give trust to a third party developer who gives you visual confirmation that your privacy is ensured. I use at meetings and other events.

This was an exceptional app, until I restarted my phone and got an advertisement. I realize compensation is nice, especially for such a widely used app, however, just like most other apps with ads that pop up on my homescreen, I will be uninstalling it. 😔 It's been a good run, well over a year now without anything intrusive happening.

The are a surprising number of accesses to the smartphones camera. This app identifies the time and apps that access the cameras, mics or GPS. Kudos to the developer! The inside app extra features require periodic payments. Yet, no description of license for extra features is provided. For example, is this a one time payment or an annual subscription?

Free version experience seems to be legit. When I open an app that I know accesses one of the monitored features, the dot shows up. I do wish that the app would log each feature accessed, and inform you of which app accessed it. Maybe that is offered in the premium version, but unsure. If so, might be worth the purchase if you have privacy concerns.
