Well I get the concept. But the execution is disastrous and after quite a few years of the system being in place and numerous negative reviews there's still no improvement. The app still cannot be used if one doesn't own a swiss phone number, great for tourists and internationals isn't it? And if you manage to get into the system you'll still randomly get disconnected at any point of the journey. Some ICE or IR aren't even detected by the system at all. From CFF, disappointing

This is one of the most swiss solution I've seen in a while : Ridiculously over-complicated while technologically unsound. App needs Bluetooth plus location plus data usage. You'd better not forget your charger.... It's completely asinine. Tailored to one use case. It excludes anyone with a laptop, a mobile device running a less popular os and tablets without a sim card. You'd be better off doing nothing. On the bright side, the app works well.

SBB free train WiFi means "free if you already have a Swiss phone contract" or an eSim from Sunrise or Swisscom. If you haven't, don't even bother trying. I'm giving this one star, although this is a reflection on SBB's ridiculously insular and unwelcoming policy, rather than the app itself.

Why even bother trying? Didn't expect it to work and, oh what a surprize, it didn't work! C'mon we have working WiFi in United Airlines airplanes, thousands of feet over the ocean and it aint possible to get a working internet connection on Swiss trains?! Not even to mention that IF the app worked, laptops, tablets, older phones, etc etc. wouldn't be able to use it. Even the german DB has it. And that's only one of the downsides of swiss trains.... Update: Actually seems to work...👍

The App only works for customers of Digitec, Quickline, Salt, Sunrise, and Swisscom. Having noticed in the app, I now see that it does actually say that in the app description. Still, for clarity, I'd recommend renaming the app "SBB NationalSurf-No Foreigners please". (Incidentally, foreigners are obviously the ones most in need of free wifi because they are on roaming.)

An over-engineered mess that works maybe half the time. A simple wifi-login would have been much better. You might say that internet quality is better over GSM than WiFi, but in all honesty, how many people really care and are willing to download an additional app for that and then grant Bluetooth access and location information for that.

A solution that excludes a large portion of your customers, many devices such as laptops and tablets and forces you to buy a specific SIM card is not a solution and advertising it as "Free' is false advertising. A simple LTE wifi router with SMS authentication would have done the trick. Please go back to the drawing board

Works nicely. The free surfing is sometime interrupted because of a tunnel or if the train is stuck in a station but this is understandable. I see a lot of complaints and bad ratings. But for someone without unlimited internet and who traveled +10 years with the cff, this app really makes my travels more comfortable.
