No Brasil, o Acordo foi aprovado pelo Decreto Legislativo nº 54, de 18 de abril de 1995.

Este guia foi elaborado de acordo com a 5ª edição do "Vocabulário Ortográfico da Língua Portuguesa" (VOLP), publicado pela Academia Brasileira de Letras em março de 2009.
