Tired of the same looping track? With ChromaDoze, you create an infinite stream of custom-colored noise. Simply draw the sound you want to hear.

This app follows a simple user-first philosophy:
- Self-contained: Built without internet permission, runs privately anywhere.
- Stable interface: I avoid unnecessary changes, so you don't have to relearn the app.
- Battery-friendly: Designed to be light on your phone's battery.
- Contains math: Infused with the soothing functions of Fourier analysis.
- Free and open source software: GPLv3 license

Made in 2010 and it still works! You wouldn't believe how often Android deprecates stuff.

It can come in handy if there are any country restrictions or any restrictions from the side of your device on the Google App Store.

What's New

Changes since 4.3:
- Major rebranding! Chroma Doze is now ChromaDoze.
- Add a button to enable the 'stop button' notification. This had been broken since API 33.
- Make the UI narrower when Gesture Navigation grabs the left/right edges of the screen. The full-width UI is still available with 3-button Navigation.
- Add a "maximum" line, to prevent the aspect ratio from getting too narrow.
- Add a stop/pause media button handler, for improved compatibility with sleep timer apps.

My Bluetooth earbuds tend to clip off the beginnings and ends of words because they have some kind of gate filter which can't be turned off and automatically mutes the output below a certain level. Using this app, with the “Ignore Audio Focus” option keeps them broadcasting continuously, which fixes that problem. The default volume is quite loud, so I also use the “Reduce Volume” option to turn it way down.

When a stand-alone noise machine isn't feasible for me, this has been my go-to app for years: rather than offering a bunch of canned (and, too-often, short-looped) sounds, Chroma Doze allows custom-shaped noise patterns to suit one's needs, which strikes me as ideal, since a one-size-fits-all approach hardly works for different situations and individuals. You might need to noodle around a bit to find the most-effective sound-masking effect, but the straightforward controls make this easy.

I should have rated this years ago. it's the only way I've found to make a custom white noise that sounds exactly like my Dohm fan machine. other apps have good white noise selections, but this one takes the cake for customizability and being open source! I just ran it overnight and it used 30 percent of my phone battery over 10 hours (playing to a Bluetooth speaker). Not bad.

Amazing. I use this to mask my tinnitus. If I start with the volume loud for a few minutes, then gradually reduce the volume while consciously listening to the app sound, then by the time I've reduced it to inaudible/silent, the tinnitus is greatly reduced or even gone completely. For a while anyway! Hope this helps someone.

The BEST basic white noise app out there! There are no looped sound recordings, just white noise. You can customize the sound hiss generated and save multiple presets - example: loud covering TV hiss, low 'wind noise', etc. If I could donate to support the Developer's other work, I would throw a few dollars their way in appreciation.

would be interesting to see filters for the sound. ex: the noise becomes flowing water, wind, or something. also saved settings that you can select and load. that needs added, i would love that. edit: above review is from 6 years ago. save settings were indeed added, which was great. not much else has been done feature wise, but it gets the job done. also for all this time this app hasnt had any ads. ad-free white noise apps are as rare as it gets, so kudos to devs.

Very good. Has a save function, stable over long periods of time, true random noise (or at least not an obvious repeating clip), and the filtering sounds very good. Many applications of this kind get all of those wrong. At the time of writing, this one is perfect and a must-have.

My entire family has used this for years. I love the eq, which allows me to adjust to the room or outside noise. My brain is insane and will find the repetition and loops in loop based programs like this, so the loop-les sound generator approach is perfect.
