Forward Chess is an interactive chess book reader. Read the book, play through book lines, AND try your OWN lines. The embedded Stockfish engine, one of the strongest chess playing engines on the planet, can be invoked at any time to provide an evaluation of the book’s moves or an evaluation of your own variations. Forward Chess is like having a book, a chessboard, and a powerful analysis tool together right in the palm of your hand!One of the best things about Forward Chess is its ergonomic design. Forward Chess engineers designed easy-to-reach “Previous” and “Next” buttons that allow the user to quickly scroll through moves, and a one-touch snap-to-position feature that allows the user to touch a move and snap to a position. The resizable diagrams are easy on the eyes.
For large-scale navigation, Forward Chess allows the user to jump directly to specific chapters, scroll seamlessly through single chapters, and navigate long trees of variations with ease.
Forward Chess now supports note taking: creation, editing, and deletion. The app also supports multiple bookmarks per book.
Forward Chess currently features books published by the following fine chess publishers: Quality Chess, Chess Stars, Russell Enterprises, Chess Informant, New In Chess, and Mongoose Press.

This is the best way to study chess books. As you play through the lines in games/ problems, the program can instantly return you to the point in the game where the line began. (I can almost never remember where the pieces were at the start of a line, which was very aggravating and time consuming. ) The only shortcoming here is that not all chess books are available in this format.

The books on this app are great! I haven't purchased any because the user interface, and the design of the app, are not as polished as I would like. I downloaded a few book samples and i found a few bugs and glitches. I'll wait some time before purchasing books on this app. It's definitely promising!

After the developer answered my request, I was able to edit the interface to a much more usable state. With new settings the app does look usable and snappy, and it's a great resource to help studying!

This is just a frontend for publishers to sell books. The software ONLY displays titles that were acquired via it, nothing else; products you bought over the years in common formats (azw, epub, lit, mobi, pdf, ...) are inaccessible. By the same token, titles you do buy via this app cannot be read with other programs on mobile or PC, because there is no conversion from/to their proprietary format. Better use a general reader and buy books in universally accessible formats elsewhere.

I love this app! It has taken the tedium out of reading chess books with a standard chess board. I was tempted to give the rating four stars only because it lacks the ability to export books as pgns, but this is not really their fault as the publishers would not agree to this. I've written to Forward Chess recommending some improvements, and they responded right away. This app is wonderful, and will only get better as they add new features.

The biggest problem with this app is you cannot use books that you already have on your phone. There is no option to go to a folder on your device. It is not a reader per say as much as it is an app specifically designed to sell books. Books that I have already purchased and are on my phone don't seem to show up anywhere within the app. If I'm wrong let me know. If I have to purchase it first before I have an opportunity to load in one of my own books then I think it's pretty dishonest of you.

Though I prefer the feel of pages abd think it is easier to read books than screens I understand this is much more practical and easier to work with and the functionality is quite impressive. In many ways an amazing advancement.

This app is better than others attempting to offer a Chess study tool for Android because its features really works and are well integrated. Besides, its own content is customized to take advantage of the app and has affordable prices, making them competitive compared with other ebook formats or hard copies, that cannot offer the same functionality. You should give it a try.
