There are a lot of bugs. Sometimes, ill send a message and the exact message will send, and still be in the text box. Which is annoying. Other times while I'm typing, it'll randomly scramble up a bunch of letters together, and be difficult to delete letters/words. It'll also crash randomly or freeze all together. Videos won't always send. Very disappointed over all with the quality of this app. I was reluctant to switch over for a while, especially when it started promoting the switch.

My husband and I were forced to switch from verizon +. I loved that app. So easy to use and I loved all the options. I like the way verizons text app is laid out and color codes each person. This is very bland and all just falls flat when I look at it. It's very boring to look at. I do love the many additional emojis this app offers compared to Verizon but that's it. I cannot figure out how to forward a message. Not user friendly. Do you give our info to 3rd parties?

I was forced to switch to this app after nearly a decade using Message+, and the experience has been less than pleasant. In short, this app is garbage. Sometimes, it won't send messages at all, even when I'm connected to wifi. In order to send pictures, I have to click through like four screens to get to my albums, and most recently, it stopped allowing me to send messages in group chats. Texting on my phone has become nearly impossible, completely unreliable, and wholly disappointing.

Adapting to this from Message+ was simple enough. All contacts came through as they are supposed to be, pictures and gifs send fine, darkmode was figured out. However, I'm unable to set the app to "Driving" or "Do Not Disturb." There is no way for me to customize the font to make it easier for me to read. There is no way way to make all text messages sound different from other phone notifications except for going into each thread and changing it there. There're many more, but space is limited.

Seems to work pretty well. Issues I've run into are not getting notifications for some messages, and unread messages not being highlighted -- I missed a text response for 2 days because I didn't see a notification or unread text show. Other than that, gif board is pretty good. I wish there was a quick shortcut to shared images and media though - you have to go to "Details" from the drop down menu in the chat to find them.

I was forced to switch from Verizon messages+ and I'm extremely unhappy with this app. It's difficult to navigate the settings, has an extreme lack of customization and is unbelievably basic, even down to the font. We are nearing 2025, why make it so basic? Some people like that but most do not. It has a fraction of the things the other app had to offer. It needs some serious work. For all of us having to switch from messages+ it's difficult to go from an awesome app to this.

Like many others, I was forced into this app by Verizon. Functionally, it's OK. What's driving me crazy is that for as long as I've had a smartphone, it's had a unique vibration (not sound) for text messages. After hours of researching and trial/error I've come to the conclusion that the only way to do that with Google Messages is to download a separate (paid) 3rd party app. Why not include something so basic that's been a standard for 10+ years? Gave it a shot, but I'll be switching apps soon.

Normally 5 stars, but this last update sucks! EVERY time i finish texting someone and try to go back to other conversations, it ignores a button press. I press the back button twice, once to dismiss the keyboard, which works, and a second to go back, which doesn't. I know this is very much a first world problem, but i think we should be able to field test our software to make sure it WORKS!
